OXFAM: BE THAT CHANGE
Date: Saturday 28th April
Time: 10.30am- 6pm
Venue: St. David's Hall
Oxfam still have a few spaces left for Oxfams celebrated CHANGE programme in Cardiff this Saturday. BE THAT CHANGE is a unique opportunity. You will learn from some of Oxfam's most experienced and travelled campaigns staff, meet with other keen South Wales campaigners who want to make a difference, and pick up key skills to plan campaigning activities for your community and for your personal development over the year ahead. While you do not need to be an existing Oxfam supporter to benefit from the course, we will ask you to put your skills into practise during 2007 by taking action on specific campaigning issues such as fairtrade, health & education for all, and climate change. Off the back of this course we will support you to organise local events, raise awareness of issues, influence politicians and businesses, and get into the media.
Starting from 10.30am, the morning will focus on understanding some of the issues behind poverty, different approaches to campaigning for change, and planning skills for impactful local activities. Lunch will be provided, following which we will home in on areas of specific interest to you and look at putting together action plans. At 3pm we will be joined by other Oxfam supporters to meet the Directors of Oxfam GB and Oxfam Cymru, for an overview of current world issues and how Oxfam is responding. These will be further explored in detail through a choice of workshops, where you can find out from our own field staff, how goats purchased through Oxfams Unwrapped catalogue are helping tackle poverty in Tajikistan - and how the campaigning work of Oxfam supporters is having a global impact on poverty reduction. From 6pm there will be the opportunity to relax and share ideas at a post-CHANGE social.
TO BOOK YOUR PLACE ON THIS FANTASTIC EVENT, please e-mail CROwen@oxfam.org.uk, or Tom Pinder at Oxfam Cymru - tpinder@oxfam.org.uk - by midday Friday 27 th April.
