Historical fencing is the reconstruction of the European martial art of swordplay, as practiced from ancient times to the 19th century. The practise consists of a number of different weapon disciplines including:

• Bastard Sword
• Arming Sword and Buckler/Shield
• Hanger Combat
• Rapier and Side (e.g. dagger, cloak)
• Small Sword
• Sabre

Far from the slow, cumbersome combat depicted in many films and TV productions, European martial arts could be every bit as complex, fast and devastating as their Asian counterparts.

Star Sword Club runs individual lessons for those interested in practicing these historical forms. Appropriate armour and weapons are provided and tuition is given based on texts dating from the correlating period.
