MATCH REPORTS

Star Sword defeats Gwent Sword 87 - 75

On the 24th of January Gwent Sword Club came to face Star in an inter-club match. After a narrow defeat in the last match Gwent were out for revenge, fielding two strong teams. Star 'A' vs Gwent 'A' was close run throughout, with each team taking turns to edge ahead. A superb performance from Andrew McLeod kept Gwent in the runnings, in one fight making up nine points without conceding a hit! Going into the final Gwent had a two point lead and with another superb fight Andrew defeated Star fencer Max Weedon 5 - 4 to win! Or so we thought. When counting up points at the end it was found that gwent had actually not made it to 45, but the match had been stopped prematurely at 43 - 42! Unfortunately there wasn't time to fight the last few hits - mutterings of a rematch were swiftly heard.

Star 'B' vs Gwent 'B' was far more clear cut. Star managed to field a surprising strong team and great performances from all the Star fencers saw them maintain a comfortable lead throughout. Final score 45 - 32 to Star, despite some good come back fights from Catherine Fisher.

So overall a close victory for Star over Gwent 87 points to 75! Congratulation to all those who took part for an evening of excellent fencing. No doubt a rematch will take place very soon.
